Open House Event!
I have such an exciting update today! On March 5th, there was an Open House event at a venue called “The Canvas Event Studio” in Lincoln, NE. Siara and her family have really put together a blank canvas for folks wishing to host a small gathering from showers to parties to weddings. I’ll walk you through what went into our thought process when prepping for this event.

First things first, how did I get involved?
I was doom scrolling on Instagram, as one does, and stumbled across the Canvas story where Siara was asking if local event planners were interested in putting together a display table. I sent this off to my sister-in-law (check us out ๐) Morgan and said, “Is this a good idea? What do you think?” and her immediate response was “Do it!” She then went into full blown designer mode (thank goodness).
I replied with yes and learned that “Birthday Party” was the remaining display available (others were Bridal Shower, Baby Shower, Wedding, Corporate Dinner, & Grad Party!). We then asked for some inspo photos to make sure we were on the right track. From there, Pinterest, Amazon, Dollar Tree, and my new Cricut were our best friends!
What was amazing as well was that I didn’t even have to physically BE there. I am not a salesman. I know what I’m doing, and I can execute an event, but I do best when showing, not telling. Being able to show off our skills and provide contact information but not be the nervous nelly that I am when selling myself…it was perfect!
Theme
We wanted to utilize a birthday theme for maybe someone older. While Bluey, Paw Patrol, and any Disney theme is AWESOME, we wanted to make it a bit more mature…now, Morgan is actually turning 30 next month, so we ran with that! In the end, it was great because now we can reuse stuff I bought and made ๐
We’ve now determined what age we were going with. Our next step is picking a theme. I have been OBSESSED with bows lately ๐ Not wearing them necessarily (though I have!) but as a decor item. Thanks to social media and Pinterest, “Tying up her Twenties!” was immediately what we went for.
As for colors, if you couldn’t tell, I really like sage green and cornflower blue, so we went with those for the theme colors! Gold and Ivory were easy for the neutral colors as that was the tablecloth provided and I am not a fan of Silver…decision made!

Vision & Execution
My vision was to show off a display table that anyone can put together without breaking the bank!
We had disposable silverware, plates, and flutes. The gold charger plates & votive holders are from Dollar Tree. We did hit up Hobby Lobby for some of the pretty touches. And the rest are Amazon or Canva Print designed by yours truly ๐
We took the last Saturday in February to do a test run and while most of it was exactly what we were thinking it was going to be, it was super helpful! I highly recommend setting up your table display for your guest tables, specialty tables, etc. ahead of time so you know what’s missing, what you need to remember to bring with you (my ‘oh shit kit’ will be another blog on another day), and just for comfortability on the day so you aren’t stressed (about that anyway).
